NEW Microsoft Authenticator for TEST Procedures

Body

Purpose

Florida Atlantic is officially making the switch from DUO Multifactor Authentication to Microsoft Authentication. To prepare for the switch later this year, the Office of Information Technology Identity & Access Management team will be enabling Microsoft Authenticator for all services authenticated using Single Sign On Test (SSOT.fau.edu) on {DATE}.

Questions

  1. Do I need to change my TEST FAUNetID password even though I already did recently?

  2. Why do I need to download Microsoft Authenticator?

Solutions

  1. Yes, in order for your password to properly sync to your new EntraID (Your Microsoft ID in which will provide the new Authentication) it is required to reset your TEST password to sign into the SSOT environment.

  2. You will need to download and configure the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device.  The University is making the switch from Duo Multifactor Authentication to Microsoft Authentication. To prepare for the switch, we are first enabling Microsoft Authentication in the TEST environment.

First, reset your TEST password

  1. Navigate to https://accounts-test.iam.fau.edu/
  2. Click Forgot Your Password
    • Enter your NetID
    • Click > Continue (The process may appear like it’s freezing but hang tight)
    • Enter the recovery code sent to your configured backup email (Likely a personal email unless explicitly changed)
    • Enter a new password never used before
  3. There may be a 1-15min delay before this password syncs to Entra (There are plans to speed this up before production launch.)

Second, Download the Microsoft Authenticator

  1. On your phone head to the app store and find Microsoft Authenticator or scan the QR code below.
  2. Linking your account to the app will happen in the steps below in the next section.

Third, Enroll in Microsoft Entra

  1. Open a new private window or start a new private session on a browser
  2. Navigate to one of the following links:
  3. Enter in your NetID followed by @fau.cc. Example: testaccount22@fau.cc   (@fau.cc is the test domain in Microsoft)
  4. Follow the directions on the Microsoft prompts and then clicking Next until your account is linked on the last step by clicking Done. See below for example screen shots.
  5. After clicking Done on the final step, you will be forwarded to your log in.
    • If you receive a “Stale Request Error”, re-enter the URLS from step 2 above.
