Create a Recording with Mediasite Capture

This guide explains how to use Mediasite Capture, the in-browser recording tool that allows you to create videos without installing any software. This is the simplest way to record your screen and/or camera and have it automatically added to your Mediasite library.

Step-by-Step Guide to Recording

1. Access Your Mediasite Portal

   • First, you must log into your personal "My Mediasite" portal.

2. Launch Mediasite Capture

   • Once you are in your My Mediasite portal, look for the option to add a new video. This may be a button labeled Add Media or Create Presentation.
   • From the list of options that appears, select Capture.

3. Set Up Your Recording

   • Mediasite Capture will now open in a new browser tab.
   • Your browser will likely ask for permission to use your microphone and camera. Click Allow.
   • Follow the on-screen prompts to set up your recording:
     • Title: Give your new presentation a title.
     • Choose Your Layout: Select what you want to record. You can choose Display (your screen), Camera, or Display & Camera to record both at the same time.
     • Select Your Screen: If you chose to record your display, your browser will prompt you to select which screen, application window, or browser tab you wish to share.

4. Start and Stop Recording

   • When you are ready, click the red Record button to begin. A countdown will appear before the recording starts.
   • To finish, click the square Stop button.

What Happens After You Record

Once you stop the recording, you will be taken to a preview screen.

• Trim Your Video: You can use the simple trim tool here to cut out any unwanted portions from the beginning or end of your recording.
• Automatic Upload: When you are satisfied, click "Save" or "Upload." The video will automatically begin uploading to your My Mediasite library. The time this takes will depend on the length of the recording and your internet speed.
• Processing: After uploading, Mediasite will process the video. Processing can take some time, from a few minutes to an hour or more for very long videos.

Once processing is complete, your new video will appear in your list of presentations in your My Mediasite portal, ready to be shared or embedded in Canvas.
