1. The Benefits of a Licensed (Pro) Account
All active FAU staff and students are eligible for a free Zoom Pro (Licensed) account, which provides significant advantages over a Basic account.
-
Licensed Account:
-
Host meetings with up to 300 participants.
-
Host meetings for an unlimited duration (no 40-minute time limit).
-
Use advanced features like cloud recording (for faculty and staff).
-
Basic Account:
2. How to Get Your Licensed Account
Activating your FAU licensed account is a simple, one-time process achieved by signing in through the official university portal.
-
Open a web browser and go to the FAU Zoom Portal: https://fau-edu.zoom.us
-
Click Sign In and log in with your FAUNet ID and password.
This single sign-on action automatically provisions a Licensed (Pro) account for you. For more detailed instructions on this initial setup, see our guide: How to Activate Your FAU Zoom Account.
3. Important: Why Your Account Might Downgrade to Basic
To ensure efficient license management, Zoom accounts that are inactive for an extended period will be automatically downgraded from a Licensed to a Basic account.
-
What defines inactivity? An account is considered inactive if it has not hosted a meeting within a certain timeframe.
-
Please note: Simply joining other users' meetings does not count as hosting activity. You must start a meeting where you are the host to keep the license active.
4. How to Re-Upgrade Your Account to Licensed
If you notice your account has been downgraded (for example, you see a 40-minute time limit warning when scheduling a meeting), you can instantly restore your licensed status.
The solution is the same as the initial activation:
-
Log out of the Zoom desktop app and any browser sessions.
-
Go to the FAU Zoom Portal at https://fau-edu.zoom.us and Sign In again with your FAUNet ID.
This single action re-authenticates your account and automatically re-applies the Pro license, restoring all your extended-use features immediately.
