About Microsoft Entra MFA Enrollment
Purpose:
Multifactor Authentication (MFA) helps keep your account safe by adding an extra layer of protection when you sign in.
Instead of just using your password, MFA asks you to confirm your identity using something else—like a code sent to your phone or a notification in an app.
The purpose of MFA is to:
- Protect your personal information and university data
- Prevent unauthorized access to your account, even if your password is stolen
- Reduce the risk of hacking, phishing, and account takeovers
- Make sure only you can access your FAU account and services
Even if someone knows your password, they still won’t be able to sign in without your second verification method. This helps keep your email, files, and other university systems secure.
Questions:
What is Microsoft Entra MFA?
- Entra MFA is Microsoft's cloud-based multi-factor authentication service that adds a layer of security by requiring additional verification methods beyond a password during sign-ins. The Microsoft Authenticator app is a specific authentication method used with Entra MFA to provide that second factor through push notifications, one-time codes, or passwordless sign-in via biometrics or a PIN.
What happens if I do not enroll?
- MFA is required to access FAU Services and you will be unable to sign-in until you complete the enrollment process.
