About Your FAU Account

Learn about your FAUNet ID, account sign-in, and when your account is created.

Your FAUNet ID is the unique identifier assigned to your FAU account. It is part of your official FAU email address, such as FAUNetID@fau.edu or FAUNetID@health.fau.edu.

  • Your FAUNet ID identifies your FAU account.
  • Your FAUNet ID is part of your official FAU email address.
  • You will use your FAU account to access university systems such as Canvas, MYFAU, Workday, Microsoft 365, and other FAU services.
  • FAU uses single sign-on for many university systems, allowing you to use the same FAU account credentials for multiple services.
  • When signing in to most FAU services, use your full FAU email address.

Not sure which email address to use? See What Is My FAU Email Address?.

  • Students: Your FAUNet ID is generated upon admission to FAU and is included with your acceptance information along with activation instructions.
  • Faculty and staff: Your FAUNet ID is generated after your onboarding process is completed in Workday. You will receive your FAUNet ID and activation instructions.

If you do not know your FAUNet ID, use the FAU Account Self-Service portal to look it up.

  1. Go to FAU Account Self-Service.

  3. Follow the prompts to locate your account.

Multi-Factor Authentication

Use Microsoft multi-factor authentication to help protect your FAU account.

FAU uses Microsoft multi-factor authentication (MFA) as an additional security step when signing in to protected university services.

The Microsoft MFA knowledge base includes instructions for:

  • Enrolling in Microsoft MFA.
  • Setting up Microsoft Authenticator.
  • Adding additional authentication methods.
  • Setting up a new phone.
  • Troubleshooting verification codes and push notifications.

Visit the Multi-Factor Authentication knowledge base for instructions and troubleshooting.

Account Changes and Special Accounts

Request an eligible FAUNet ID change, courtesy account, or departmental account.

Your original FAUNet ID cannot be changed simply for preference. Changes are available only in specific eligible circumstances.

Review the requirements and submit an FAUNet ID Change request if needed.

A courtesy account can provide temporary FAU account access for an eligible non-FAU user who needs access for university-related work, such as a guest or contractor.

Courtesy accounts must be requested by an FAU department and may need to be extended if continued access is required.

Request Courtesy Account/Access.

A departmental or shared mailbox can provide a common FAU email address for a department, office, program, or service area. Access is granted to authorized users through their individual FAU accounts.

If your department needs a new shared or departmental mailbox, submit a New Departmental Account request.

Leaving FAU

Learn what happens to your FAU account and email after graduation, employment, or retirement.

FAU account and email access may change when you graduate, leave employment, or retire.

  • Students will get to retain access to their Outlook email for 1 year post graduation. After 1 year, access to Office 365, including Outlook and OneDrive is removed.
  • Employees lose access to their Office 365 email immediately upon their last day of employment unless they are an active student. If the employee is an alumni, access to Owl Mail will remain, however, all Office 365 access is removed.
  • Retired faculty may get the option to retain their email during their exit interview with HR. They will fill out and submit a form to us and email access will remain active.

Please note:  Alumni who graduated prior to Summer 2023 may get to retain their alumni Owl Mail as long as they remain under quota and log-in at least every 6 months. If your Owl Mail account is removed due to inactivity it will not be restored.
