Map a Network Drive
This article explains how to map a network drive on MacOS and Windows. Mapping a network drive allows you to access a shared FAU network folder from your computer.
Before you begin: Confirm with your department that you have been approved to access the drive. Make sure you are connected to the FAU network or connected to the VPN.
Map a Network Drive on MacOS ▾
- Click on the desktop or click the Finder icon in the dock.
- From the top menu bar, select Go, then select Connect to Server.
- In the server address field, enter the network path using this format:
smb://FAUNetID@fauandi1.fau.edu/share
- For example, a home drive path may look similar to:
smb://dleaderman2013@fauandi1.fau.edu/home$

- Click Connect.
- If prompted, enter your FAU account password.
- The network drive should connect and appear in Finder.
Note: Replace FAUNetID and share with the appropriate username and network drive name for your access.
Map a Network Drive on Windows ▾
- Open File Explorer.
- Select This PC.
- Select the three dots menu, then select Map network drive.

- Select an available drive letter.
- In the Folder field, enter the network path using this format:
\\fauandi1.fau.edu\shareddrivename
- Make sure Reconnect at sign-in is checked.

- Click Finish.
- If prompted, enter your FAU account credentials.
- The network drive should connect and appear under This PC.
Note: Replace shareddrivename with the correct network drive name.
Troubleshooting ▾
- Confirm that you are connected to the FAU network or the VPN.
- Confirm that the network path was typed correctly.
- Confirm that you are using your FAU account credentials when prompted.
- Confirm that you have been granted access to the network drive.
- If the drive was previously mapped but is no longer working, disconnect the old mapped drive and try mapping it again.
- Reboot your computer.
