Set Up and Access FAU Email in Outlook

This article explains how current FAU students, faculty, and staff can access FAU email through Outlook on the web, Outlook for Windows, Outlook for Mac, the Outlook mobile app, and supported native mail apps.
Before you begin: Use your full FAU email address when signing in, such as FAUNetID@fau.edu or FAUNetID@health.fau.edu. You may be redirected to FAU single sign-on and prompted to authenticate with Microsoft Authenticator.
Recommended option: For the best experience, use Outlook on the web or the Microsoft Outlook app. Native mail apps may work, but features and setup steps may vary by device.

Access Outlook on the Web

Outlook on the web can be used from a supported web browser on a computer, tablet, or mobile device.

  1. Go to https://outlook.office.com.
  2. Enter your full FAU email address.
  3. Select Next.
  4. Enter your FAU password.
  5. Complete FAU single sign-on and Microsoft Authenticator verification, if prompted.
  6. After signing in, your mailbox will open in Outlook on the web.
Note: If you are using an older link such as outlook.office365.com, it may redirect to the current Outlook on the web address.

Set Up Outlook on Windows

Use these steps to add your FAU email account to Outlook on a Windows computer.

If Outlook opens to the setup screen

  1. Open Outlook.
  2. Enter your full FAU email address.
  3. Select Next or Connect.
  4. If prompted, select Work or school account.
  5. Enter your FAU password.
  6. Complete FAU single sign-on and Microsoft Authenticator verification, if prompted.
  7. Allow Outlook to finish configuring the mailbox.
  8. After setup completes, your email should begin syncing into Outlook.

Add another account in classic Outlook for Windows

  1. Open Outlook.
  2. Select File.
  3. Select Add Account.
  4. Enter your full FAU email address.
  5. Follow the prompts to sign in with your FAU account.

Add another account in new Outlook for Windows

  1. Open Outlook.
  2. Select View, then select View settings. You may also be able to select File, then Account info, depending on your Outlook version.
  3. Select Accounts.
  4. Select Your accounts.
  5. Select Add account.
  6. Enter your full FAU email address.
  7. Follow the prompts to sign in with your FAU account.

Set Up Outlook on Mac

Use these steps to add your FAU email account to Outlook for Mac.

If Outlook opens to the setup screen

  1. Open Outlook.
  2. Enter your full FAU email address.
  3. Select Add Account or Continue.
  4. Enter your FAU password.
  5. Complete FAU single sign-on and Microsoft Authenticator verification, if prompted.
  6. Select Done when setup is complete.

Add another account in Outlook for Mac

  1. Open Outlook.
  2. Select Outlook from the top menu, then select Settings. Depending on your Outlook version, you may also use Tools > Accounts.
  3. Select Accounts.
  4. Select Add Account or the plus (+) button.
  5. Enter your full FAU email address.
  6. Follow the prompts to sign in with your FAU account.

Set Up the Outlook Mobile App

Use the Outlook mobile app to access FAU email, calendar, and contacts on an iPhone, iPad, or Android device.

iPhone or iPad

  1. Open the App Store.
  2. Search for Microsoft Outlook, or use Microsoft’s Outlook for iOS download link: Download Outlook for iOS.
  3. Download and open the Microsoft Outlook app.
  4. If this is your first time using Outlook, select Get Started or Add Account.
  5. Enter your full FAU email address.
  6. Select Add Account or Continue.
  7. Enter your FAU password.
  8. Complete FAU single sign-on and Microsoft Authenticator verification, if prompted.
  9. If prompted to add another account, select Maybe Later unless you want to add another account.
  10. Accept any required permission prompts.
  11. Allow a few minutes for email, calendar items, and contacts to sync.

Android

  1. Open the Google Play Store.
  2. Search for Microsoft Outlook, or use Microsoft’s Outlook for Android download link: Download Outlook for Android.
  3. Download and open the Microsoft Outlook app.
  4. If this is your first time using Outlook, select Get Started or Add Account.
  5. Enter your full FAU email address.
  6. Select Add Account or Continue.
  7. Enter your FAU password.
  8. Complete FAU single sign-on and Microsoft Authenticator verification, if prompted.
  9. Accept any required permission prompts.
  10. Allow a few minutes for email, calendar items, and contacts to sync.
Note: If Outlook detects personal Google accounts on Android, you can skip adding them if you only want to add your FAU account.

Set Up FAU Email in Native Mail Apps

The Microsoft Outlook app is recommended, but FAU email can also be added to some native mail apps using Microsoft 365 or Exchange.

Apple Mail on Mac

  1. Open the Mail app.
  2. If this is your first time using Mail, the account setup screen may open automatically. Otherwise, select Mail > Add Account.
  3. Select Microsoft Exchange, then select Continue.
  4. Enter your name and full FAU email address.
  5. Select Sign In.
  6. Enter your FAU password.
  7. Complete FAU single sign-on and Microsoft Authenticator verification, if prompted.
  8. Choose the apps you want to use with the account, such as Mail, Contacts, Calendar, Reminders, and Notes.
  9. Select Done.

Apple Mail on iPhone or iPad

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Go to Mail > Accounts, or go to Apps > Mail > Mail Accounts, depending on your iOS version.
  3. Select Add Account.
  4. Select Microsoft Exchange.
  5. Enter your full FAU email address, such as FAUNetID@fau.edu or FAUNetID@health.fau.edu.
  6. Enter your FAU password, if prompted.
  7. Select Next.
  8. If server information is required, enter outlook.office365.com.
  9. If a username is required, enter your full FAU email address.
  10. Select the items you want to sync, such as Mail, Contacts, Calendars, and Reminders.
  11. Select Save.

Native Mail App on Android

Android mail settings vary by device manufacturer and Android version. The Microsoft Outlook app is recommended, but some Android devices can add FAU email using the native mail app, Gmail app, or another built-in email app.

  1. Open the device’s Settings app, Gmail app, or native email app.
  2. Go to Accounts or Add account.
  3. Select Microsoft Exchange, Exchange and Microsoft 365, Exchange ActiveSync, or Corporate, depending on the device.
  4. Enter your full FAU email address, such as FAUNetID@fau.edu or FAUNetID@health.fau.edu.
  5. Enter your FAU password, if prompted.
  6. If you see a Domain\Username field, enter your full FAU email address.
  7. If Domain and Username are separate fields, enter your full FAU email address in the Username field and leave Domain blank. If the device requires a domain value, enter your full FAU email address.
  8. Select Next.
  9. If server information is required, enter outlook.office365.com.
  10. Select the account options you want to sync, such as mail, calendar, contacts, or notifications.
  11. Select Next or Done to finish setup.
Manual settings: If a native mail app asks for server settings, use outlook.office365.com as the server and your full FAU email address as the username.
Note: Native Android mail setup steps vary by device. If the native mail app does not work, use the Microsoft Outlook app instead.

Troubleshooting

  • Make sure you are using your full FAU email address, such as FAUNetID@fau.edu or FAUNetID@health.fau.edu.
  • If prompted to choose an account type, select Work or school account, or Exchange.
  • Confirm that your FAU password works by signing in to another FAU service.
  • Try signing in to Outlook on the web at https://outlook.office.com. If Outlook on the web works, the issue may be specific to the app or device.
  • Update the Outlook app and your operating system, then try again.
  • If the account was previously added but stopped working, remove the account from Outlook and add it again.
  • If you are using a native mail app and automatic setup fails, use outlook.office365.com as the server and your full FAU email address as the username.
  • If you are using a Google Pixel or Android device and receive a Something went wrong 1001 error in the Outlook app, try using Outlook on the web.
  • If Microsoft Authenticator does not appear or authentication fails, verify that Microsoft Authenticator is set up and working for your FAU account.
