What do you need help with?

Access Google Workspace

Access Google Drive and Google Workspace apps using your FAU account.

FAU users access to Google Workspace services, including Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Forms. Available services may depend on your FAU account status and eligibility.

  1. Go to Google Drive.
  2. Enter your full FAU email address.
  3. Complete FAU sign-in if prompted.
  4. After signing in, Google Drive will open to your account.

My Drive contains files and folders you upload as well as Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Forms you create.

After signing in to Google Workspace, select the Google apps menu in the upper-right corner to open an available app.

Common Google Workspace apps include:

  • Make sure you are signing in with your FAU account.
  • If redirected to FAU single sign-on, complete the FAU sign-in process.
  • If you are already signed in to a personal Google account, switch accounts and select your FAU account.
  • If Google continues opening the wrong account, try a private or incognito browser window.
  • If your FAU Google Workspace account is unavailable, contact the Help Desk for assistance.

Use Google Drive

Upload, download, organize, and access files stored in Google Drive.

When downloading multiple files or a folder, Google may prepare the files as a compressed .zip file.

Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Forms

Create and access files using common Google Workspace apps.

Google Workspace includes browser-based applications for creating documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and forms. Files you create are automatically saved to your Google Drive.

  1. Go to Google Drive.
  2. Select New.
  3. Select the type of file you want to create:
    • Google Docs for documents.
    • Google Sheets for spreadsheets.
    • Google Slides for presentations.
    • Google Forms for forms and surveys.
  4. Create or edit your file.

Google files are automatically saved while you work.

  1. Open Google Drive.
  2. Find the Google Doc, Sheet, Slide, or Form you want to use.
  3. Select the file to open it.

You can also open files directly from the Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, or Forms websites.

Google Drive can store Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files. Depending on the file, you may be able to preview, open, edit, or download it from Google Drive.

For files that will primarily be used with Microsoft 365, OneDrive is the recommended FAU storage location.

Storage and Troubleshooting

Manage your Google Workspace storage and resolve common access or file problems.

FAU Google Workspace accounts have a 5 GB total storage limit.

Google Workspace storage may include:

  • Files uploaded to Google Drive.
  • Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and other Google Workspace files.
  • Items in Trash until they are permanently deleted.
Important: If your account reaches its storage limit, you may be unable to create, upload, edit, or store additional files until storage is reduced.

If you are approaching the 5 GB storage limit:

  • Review Google Drive and delete files you no longer need.
  • Download files you need to keep outside of Google Drive.
  • Review large files and remove unnecessary copies.
  • Empty Google Drive Trash after confirming deleted files are no longer needed.
Important: Permanently deleting files from Trash cannot be undone. Confirm that files are no longer needed before permanently deleting them.
  • If you cannot sign in, make sure you are using the correct FAU Google Workspace account.
  • If Google opens a personal account, switch to your FAU account or use a private/incognito browser window.
  • If you cannot upload, create, or edit files, check whether your account has reached the 5 GB storage limit.
  • If a file does not appear, use the search box in Google Drive to search by file name.
  • If Google Workspace does not work correctly in your browser, close and reopen the browser or try another supported browser.
  • If the problem continues, contact the FAU Help Desk.
