How to Start Your Meeting

As the host, you must be the one to officially start the meeting. Participants who join before you will be held in your Waiting Room (if enabled) or will see a message that the meeting has not yet started.

Method A: From Canvas (For Course Meetings)

Use this method for any meeting you have scheduled using the Zoom tool inside your Canvas course.

  1. Log into Canvas and navigate to your course.
  2. In the course navigation menu on the left, click on the Zoom link.
  3. The Zoom LTI page will load, showing your upcoming meetings for that course.
  4. Find the meeting you wish to begin and click the Start button next to it. 
  5. Your Zoom Desktop App will launch, and you will be hosting the meeting.

Method B: From the FAU Zoom Web Portal

This is a reliable method for starting any meeting associated with your FAU account.

  1. Open your web browser and go to https://fau-edu.zoom.us and sign in.
  2. Click on the Meetings tab in the left-hand menu.
  3. Under the "Upcoming Meetings" list, find the meeting you want to begin.
  4. Click the Start button next to it. Your Zoom application will launch. 

Method C: From the Zoom Desktop App

This is often the quickest method if you are not already in Canvas.

  1. Open the Zoom Desktop App on your computer.
  2. Click on the Meetings tab at the top of the app window.
  3. On the left, you will see a list of all your upcoming meetings. Select the one you want to begin.
  4. The meeting details will appear on the right. Click the blue Start button. 

Your Zoom meeting will now launch, and you are officially hosting!
