Plan Ahead
Here are some of the tools available and actions to take when working off campus.
Where are you saving work files?
-
Microsoft 365 One Drive: All students, faculty, and staff have access to One Drive. With One Drive, you can sync files between your computer and the cloud, so you can get to your files from anywhere - your computer, your mobile device, and even through logging in to the Office 365 portal in a web browser. One Drive is the recommended way to save your files. More information and how to access can be found here.
-
Owl Apps Google Drive: All Students, Faculty, Staff, and Alumni get an Owl Apps account which includes a Google Drive. You have a limited 5GB of space available on your FAU Owl Apps account, and therefore recommend utilizing Microsoft 365 One Drive. More information and how to access can be found here.
-
Shared Departmental ANDI/ANDISEC drives: OIT provides file storage space that is available on the campus network.
Security:
Take proper security measures on your home computer before connecting to FAU resources. Be sure to install all the updates for your operating system, and have an updated antivirus application installed and a firewall enabled. If you don't, your computer is at risk for being infected with a virus, worm, or other malware, which might prevent you from finishing your tasks. Also take a look at our Online Security Basics.
Access:
You will need your FAUNet ID and password to access FAU resources. Most FAU services now require Two-Factor Authentication (Duo). Do not use your office phone as a second device. We suggest setting up Duo Mobile on your smart phone, and if that is not an option, requesting a Duo key fob here.
Off Campus Links:
It is important that you save any URLs, IP addresses, or information you need to access any additional systems that you need to do your work.
