If your computer displays the BitLocker recovery screen, you must enter the device's recovery key before Windows will continue loading.
What causes this?
A BitLocker recovery prompt can appear after certain security-related changes, such as BIOS changes, firmware updates, Secure Boot changes, hardware changes, or other system updates.
What information do I need?
- Locate the Recovery Key ID shown on the BitLocker screen.
- Use another device to retrieve the recovery key using the method below.
- Enter the 48-digit recovery key into the BitLocker recovery screen.
- Select Continue.
Note: The Recovery Key ID helps identify the correct recovery key. It is not the same as the 48-digit recovery key.
