Enable Downloads in MyMediasite

Important Note on Privacy and FERPA

By default, the ability to download videos is disabled on all Mediasite presentations at FAU. This policy is in place at the request of the Office of the Registrar to protect student privacy and ensure compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

Before enabling downloads for any presentation that includes students, please remember the following policy:

Regardless of your methodology or approach, recorded lectures with students (in which their name, voice, and/or video is used) should not be downloaded or reused in any other course, section, or semester or shared with anyone outside of those registered for that particular course section. Doing so, is a violation of student privacy and FERPA regulations.

Part 1: Enabling the Download Setting

To download your video, you must first change its settings to allow downloads.

  1. Access your "My Mediasite" portal. (For instructions, see our guide: How to Access My Mediasite from Canvas).
  2. Find the presentation you wish to download and click on its title to open the presentation's main page.
  3. Below the video preview, click the Edit Details button.
  4. You will be taken to the presentation editor. Click on the Delivery tab.
  5. Check the box labeled Allow presentation to be downloaded.
  6. Click the Save button at the bottom of the page. The download option is now active.

Part 2: Downloading the Video Files

Now that the setting is enabled, you can download the files.

  1. Return to the main viewing page for your presentation.
  2. Scroll down below the description. You should now see a button labeled Download to Computer. Click this button.
  3. Your presentation will be downloaded to your computer as a single .zip archive file.

Part 3: Finding Your MP4 Video File

The .zip file contains all the elements of your presentation, including slides and metadata. To find the actual video file:

  1. Locate the downloaded .zip file on your computer (usually in your "Downloads" folder).
  2. "Unzip" or "Expand" the archive file. Most operating systems will do this if you double-click the file. This will create a new folder with the same name.
  3. Open the new folder. Inside, you will find a sub-folder named Content.
  4. Your video file (in .MP4 format) is located inside the Content folder.
