ANDI and ANDISEC Shared Drives

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) provides shared network storage for specific departments and authorized users to securely store and share files on the campus network. These shared spaces are hosted on ANDI or ANDISEC servers and are commonly referred to as ANDI and ANDISEC drives.

Before you begin: Access to ANDI and ANDISEC drives depends on your FAU role, permissions, device, and network connection. You may not see every drive listed in this article.

Drive Letters and Access

When connected to the campus network from a university-managed computer, you may see shared drives assigned to specific letters. Access depends on your FAU role and permissions.

Drive Letter Common Use
M: Personal drive storage
N: University-wide shared resources
O: College or division-level storage
P: Department or subdivision storage
Q: University-wide read-only resources
R:, S:, T: Special-purpose storage
Note: Drive letters and access may vary by department, device, and user permissions.

ANDI M Personal Drive

Members of the FAU community may have access to a personal network drive, commonly mapped as the M: drive. This drive is intended for personal university file storage and is only accessible to the individual user unless otherwise configured.

Important: The M: drive may include a folder named web. Files placed in the web folder may be accessible from the internet. Do not place sensitive, confidential, private, or restricted information in the web folder.

The public URL format for files placed in the M: drive web folder is:

http://home.fau.edu/<Your FAUNet ID>/web/

Quota note: Storage limits may vary. If you receive a storage quota message or need more space, submit an ANDI/ANDISEC shared drive request for review.

Access Your M Drive

If your M: drive does not automatically appear, you can try mapping it manually while connected to the FAU network or an approved remote access method.

M: drive path: Use the following network path and replace netid with your FAUNet ID: \\fauandi1.fau.edu\home$\netid

Windows mapping steps

  1. Open File Explorer.
  2. Select This PC and Right-Click it.
  3. Select Map network drive.
  4. Choose M: as the drive letter.
  5. In the Folder field, enter \\fauandi1.fau.edu\home$\netid, replacing netid with your FAUNet ID.
  6. Check Reconnect at sign-in, if available.
  7. Select Finish.
  8. If prompted, sign in using your FAU credentials.

For more detailed steps, review the Map a Network Drive article.

Important: If you receive an access denied error or the drive still cannot be mapped, you may not have access or there may be an issue with your M: drive. If your M: drive is missing or cannot be mapped, submit a request here: Report an unmappable or missing home drive / M: drive.

Shared ANDI and ANDISEC Drives

Shared ANDI and ANDISEC drives are used by departments and authorized users for shared university file storage. Access is based on approved permissions.

Common reasons to submit a request

  • Request access to an ANDI or ANDISEC shared drive.
  • Report a missing or unmapped M: drive.
  • Report a permissions issue with a shared drive.
  • Request a new ANDI shared drive.
  • Request a quota increase for an ANDI shared drive.
  • Request backup or restore assistance for an existing ANDI shared drive.
Important: Do not store sensitive or confidential information in a location unless the storage location and access permissions are approved for that data.

Cloud Storage Alternatives

For files that require cloud access, sharing, or collaboration, use an approved FAU storage solution.

  • Microsoft OneDrive: Best for files you own, drafts, or files shared with a small number of specific people.
  • Microsoft Teams: Best for active group collaboration, conversations, meetings, and shared team files.
  • Microsoft SharePoint: Best for department, project, or long-term shared file storage.

Visit FAU’s cloud storage page for approved cloud storage options: Cloud Storage Applications.

Note: When storing or sharing university data, make sure any sensitive or confidential information is properly protected and follows FAU security guidelines.

Troubleshooting

  • If a drive is missing, confirm that you are connected to the campus network or approved remote access method.
  • If you are using a university-managed computer and a drive does not appear, restart the computer and sign in again.
  • If the M: drive does not appear automatically, try mapping it manually using \\fauandi1.fau.edu\home$\netid, replacing netid with your FAUNet ID.
  • If you receive an access denied message, you may not have permission to that shared drive.
  • If your M: drive is missing or cannot be mapped, submit a missing or unmappable M: drive request.
  • If you need access to a department drive, submit the appropriate ANDI or ANDISEC access request.
  • If files placed in the M: drive web folder are visible online, remove any files that should not be publicly accessible.
  • If you are unsure where a file should be stored, contact the Help Desk before moving or sharing the file.

Still Need Help?

If your M: drive is missing or cannot be mapped, submit a Report an unmappable or missing home drive / M: drive request.  Please note you cannot access your M Drive while off campus.
