How to Download Your Zoom Cloud Recordings

1. Accessing Your Cloud Recordings

All recordings you create in Zoom are stored in your FAU Zoom web portal.

  1. Open a web browser and navigate to https://fau-edu.zoom.us.

  2. Sign in with your FAU NetID and password.

  3. In the navigation menu on the left, click Recordings.

  4. A list of your cloud recordings will appear, sorted by date. Click the title of the meeting you wish to download.

  5. You will be taken to the recording details page, which contains all the files from that session. (A screenshot showing the Recordings tab in the left-hand navigation menu would be helpful here.)

2. Identifying the Correct Recording Files

A single recording session often generates multiple files. On the details page, you will see a list of these files.

  • Shared screen with speaker view: This is the primary video file (.MP4) that most people need. It captures the content that was shared (like a PowerPoint) alongside the video of the active speaker.

  • Audio only: An audio-only version of the meeting as an .M4A file.

  • Chat text file: A text (.TXT) file containing a transcript of all public chat messages saved during the meeting.

  • Audio transcript: A text file (.VTT) containing the time-stamped transcription of the meeting's audio. This file is what Zoom uses to display closed captions.

3. Downloading the Files to Your Computer

You can download a single file or all files at once.

  1. To download a specific file: Hover your mouse over the file you want (e.g., Shared screen with speaker view) and click the download icon (a downward-facing arrow) that appears.

  2. To download all files at once: Click the Download button located above the list of files. This will save all components (video, audio, chat, etc.) to your computer.

  3. The files will be saved to your computer's default "Downloads" folder. From there, you can edit them, store them, or upload them to another service.

Next Steps

Now that you have downloaded your recording, you may want to upload it to Mediasite, FAU's official video streaming platform. For a more efficient workflow with future recordings, consider setting up an automatic transfer.
