About fau wireless for devices
The fauwireless network is strictly intended for headless or specialized devices (such as smart TVs, gaming consoles, and streaming media sticks) that do not support 802.1X enterprise authentication. Access is granted via a one-time MAC address registration through the Talon Network Device Registration System.
Note: Laptops, tablets, and smartphones must connect to eduroam for security and performance.
Register your device
Important — Disable Private/Randomized MAC Address First:
Modern devices (such as iOS, Android, Windows, and macOS devices) use randomized or private MAC addresses by default. Because network access on fau is linked directly to your physical MAC address, you must turn off "Private Wi-Fi Address" or "Randomized MAC" in your device’s network settings before registering, or your connection will fail periodically.
Follow these steps to register your non-802.1X device:

Find Your Physical MAC Address: Locate your device's Wi-Fi MAC address (a 12-character alphanumeric code, e.g., AA:BB:CC:11:22:33). Need help? Check our Device MAC Address Guide.

Access the Registration Portal: Using a web browser on your phone, tablet, or computer, navigate to the Talon Registration Portal at https://talon.fau.edu/

Log In: Sign in using your FAU email and password.

Enter Device Details:

Device Name: Enter a recognizable nickname (e.g., Living Room Smart TV or Sam's PlayStation).

MAC address: Type in the physical MAC address you located in Step 1.

Complete Registration: Accept the Usage Policy and click Register Device.

Wait for Provisioning: Wait 2–3 minutes for network access to apply before attempting to connect the registered device to the fau network.
Connecting to fau

Locate the Network Settings: On your gaming console, smart TV, or streaming device, go to Settings > Network or Wi-Fi Settings.

Select fau: Choose fau from the list of available Wi-Fi networks.

Connect: No password or additional browser login is required. Your device should connect automatically using its registered MAC address.
Note on Provisioning Delay: It can take 2 to 3 minutes for your registration to take effect across campus. If your device fails to connect immediately, wait a few minutes and toggle your device's Wi-Fi off and back on (or restart the device).
Troubleshooting & Connection Issues
- Device Fails to Connect After Registering? Verify that Private Wi-Fi Address or Randomized MAC Address is disabled in your device's network settings, then forget the
fau network and reconnect.
